What this one is for
Coastal decor goes wrong when a room gets a full set of it at once. One whale on a bed or a reading chair reads as a considered choice; six nautical objects read as a gift shop. This is the piece for the first approach, and at 16.5 by 13.3 inches it is big enough to be the thing you notice in a small room without taking over a sofa in a large one.
The shape is sewn and stuffed in three dimensions, with the tail and fins built out rather than printed flat, so it holds its outline when it is propped against a headboard. The face is a soft plush pile in a light sky blue, which is the reason it survives in a nursery: children pick it up, and it is a toy-weight object that happens to be decor.
It arrives vacuum-packed and flat. Shake it out and give it a day or two somewhere warm before judging the loft. Machine wash cold on its own, tumble dry low, no bleach, and it goes back to shape in the dryer better than a firmer cushion would.
