What this one is for
The slots are not decorative. Berries spoil in a sealed plastic container because the air cannot move, and a ventilated ceramic basket does the same job the cardboard punnet at the market does, only permanently and without looking like packaging on the counter. Rinse the fruit in it, let it drain, and leave it out.
Cream white and matcha green is the quieter of our two finishes and the one that reads as tableware rather than novelty. It sits comfortably on a counter next to plain ceramics, and because the color pairing is soft it works as a table centerpiece holding fruit at a meal rather than being cleared away first.
The body is stoneware, which is dense and strong rather than delicate, and it is oven, microwave and dishwasher safe, so it goes straight from rinsing produce to serving baked goods without a second dish. It also makes a sensible drawer organizer or a holder for small bathroom items when it is not doing kitchen duty.
