What this one is for

A floor hamper takes up a square foot of a room that usually does not have one to spare. This hangs on the back of a door instead and is only 3.5 inches deep against it, so a narrow laundry room, a utility closet or the gap behind a bathroom door becomes the place the washing lives. Two metal hooks come with it and fit doors between 1 and 1.57 inches thick.

The detail that decides whether a hanging hamper is any good is the bottom, and this one unzips. Instead of lifting a heavy bag over your head and shaking it out, you hold it over the machine, open the zip and let everything drop. The top opening is wide enough to take bulky things, so towels and bedding go in without being forced.

There is an 11 by 8 inch pocket on the front for the small items that get lost in a bag this size, and the whole thing is machine washable and made to be used again rather than replaced. The beige and black stripe is the plainest of our patterns, which is why it belongs in a working room rather than a decorated one.
