What this one is for
Same footprint, different top edge. Where the handled version is a plain rectangle that gets on with the job, this one has a wavy scalloped rim, which changes what it is: a basket you would put beside a chair in a living room rather than one you would put in a utility closet. The curve softens a piece of furniture that is otherwise all straight lines.
It keeps the useful proportions. At 6.1 inches deep it fits the narrow spaces that defeat round baskets, and 15 by 11 inches is enough for magazines, newspapers, letters, remote controls or a stack of children's books, with the slim shape making it easy to store inside a cabinet or closet when it is not in use.
The weave is 100 percent renewable paper rope worked by hand around a metal frame, so the scalloped edge holds its shape instead of drooping over time. Being handmade, the scallops vary slightly from one piece to the next.
