What this one is for
Black and gold in an oval is the most traditional thing in the whole range, and at 5 by 7 it is finally large enough to carry that weight. This is the frame for a hallway, a staircase wall or the top of a piano, where one dark oval portrait implies that the house has been lived in for longer than it has.
The size is the sweet spot for the oval shape. At 4 by 4 an oval reads as a locket and at 8 by 10 it takes over a wall, but a 5 by 7 oval sits at the scale of a head-and-shoulders portrait, which is what the shape was invented for. Remember that the oval crops a standard 5 by 7 print, so put the subject in the middle.
