Cordless Bookshelf Lamp, Dark Brown

This is the heavier of our two bookshelf lamps and the difference is deliberate. A 3.3 pound solid wood base does real work as a bookend, so a row of hardbacks stays upright against it instead of sliding, which is more than most decorative shelf lamps can claim. It is a piece of furniture with a light in it rather than a light with a wooden foot.

Be clear about what the light is for: this is ambient and decorative lighting, not reading or task lighting. It gives a bookshelf, a nightstand or a cabinet a warm point of glow in the evening, and it will not light a page. Touch the base to switch it on and hold to dim anywhere from 5 to 100 percent, with a memory function that brings back the last setting you used.

There is no cord and no outlet needed. It charges over USB-C in two to three hours, using the supplied 31.5 inch cable, and runs four to six hours wireless, or about four hours at full brightness. The 3V 2W low-voltage LED bulb is included and is not compatible with 120V power, so it is not a fitting to put an ordinary bulb into. The shade needs a moment of assembly before first use.
