Both pieces come filled rather than as covers, vacuum packed, and both want the usual 24 to 48 hours out of the bag before they look right. Velvet recovers faster than long faux fur, but the points of the star and the tips of the crescent are the slowest parts, so give the pair a shake and leave them alone for a day or two.

Star and moon together is a different proposition from two of the same shape. Two shapes make a small scene, which is why this set goes into nurseries, bunk beds and children's rooms more often than onto a formal sofa, and why it survives the end of the holiday: a crescent moon on a child's bed in March is not a leftover decoration.

The fabric is a high-quality velvet with a shiny finish, so the gold and the silver both catch light at an angle instead of reading as flat fabric, and the eco-friendly PP cotton inside is odor-free and firm enough that the slim profile keeps its shape. Each one is handmade with its own texture. A cold wash on its own, no bleach, and a low tumble dry.
