Vintage Christmas Wreath Picture Frame, 4 x 4 in, Green

Description

Almost everything worth framing now is shot square or gets cropped square before anyone sees it, and then it is forced into a 4 by 6 where either the sides get cut or white bands appear above and below. A 4 by 4 opening ends that argument. The picture goes in the way it was composed on the screen, which matters most for the close-up faces people actually frame.

The wreath is the motif, and on a square frame it does something a border pattern cannot: the circle of greenery sits inside the square outline, so the frame is two shapes at once. The bow and the pine cones break the ring at one point and stop it from looking like a wreath of plastic leaves, and the green keeps it reading as foliage rather than as decoration.

Cast in durable polyresin with crisp detail in the deep parts of the molding, with clear glass over the print. Both an easel stand and metal hanging hooks are built in, and the backing opens easily, which matters more on a small frame than a large one: prying at a stiff back with a fingernail is how small photographs get creased.
