Vintage Oval Picture Frame, 5 x 7 in, Walnut

Description

Every other oval here is a metal or a painted color, and in a room full of timber those can look like jewelry left on a sideboard. Walnut matches the furniture instead of contrasting with it: a dark warm brown that settles on oak, on bookshelves and against paneling as though it had come out of the same workshop.

Being cast rather than cut is what makes the ornament possible at all. A carved wooden oval with this much relief in it would be bench work for a joiner, whereas polyresin takes the detail straight from the mold and the hand-finished surface gives it depth instead of a flat brown, so the frame is elaborate without any joinery in it.

It takes a standard 5 by 7 print, cropped at the corners by the oval, so center what matters. Clear stain-resistant glass keeps dust and fingerprints off the photograph, the easel stand and metal hooks are both built in for a shelf or a wall in either orientation, and the backing opens without tools.
