What this one is for
Blue is the loudest finish we make a frame in, and 4 by 4 is the size that lets you use it without committing the whole room. On a busy gallery wall it would fight everything around it; on a plain painted wall, on a bare shelf or on a desk with nothing else on it, one small blue frame is a color accent that happens to hold a photograph.
The opening is square and rectangular rather than oval, so the print goes in uncropped and the ornate molding runs as a straight border around it. That combination of a plain rectangle and heavy carved relief is what gives it the European look people buy this range for, and the gold trim along the raised edges keeps the blue from reading as flat paint.
Cast polyresin with a hand-finished surface, clear stain-resistant glass, and an easy-open back. The easel stand and the metal hanging hooks are both built in, so it can stand on a surface or hang either way up.
