An eight-sided 4 by 6 frame in black with gold, the polygon molding cut flat across each of the four corners.
Description
A 4 by 6 is the print you can order in five minutes from any photo service, which is exactly why so many of them end up in the same rectangular frames. Clipping the four corners into a polygon changes the whole silhouette without changing the print, so the easiest size to buy stops looking like the default choice.
The angled corners also pay off in a group. On a bookshelf of upright rectangles the eight sides break the run of parallel lines, and at 4 by 6 the frame is small enough to slot in between larger ones rather than needing a stretch of shelf set aside for it.
Gold on black keeps the geometry legible, because the brushed edges draw each of the eight sides as a separate stroke. The body is cast polyresin, hand-finished, with clear glass that resists stains, a fold-out easel, metal hooks for hanging upright or on its side, and a back that lifts off by hand.
