Vintage Scalloped Picture Frame, 4 x 6 in, Dark Walnut

Description

A 4 by 6 is the print you get back from a lab without having to think about it, and the reason to put one in a scalloped frame is that the shape of the frame then does the work the picture cannot. A plain border leaves a snapshot looking like a snapshot; a broken outline makes the same picture look framed on purpose.

Standing upright on a nightstand or a hall table, the taller format suits a person standing, a couple, a baby held in someone's arms. Dark walnut is the forgiving finish for that: it reads as wood, it sits well on bedroom furniture, and it throws no color onto a photograph with skin tones in it.

The hooks are set for both orientations, so the same frame can go landscape on a wall if the picture turns out to want it that way. Cast polyresin, hand-finished for the detail, stain-resistant glass over the print, an easel stand for a tabletop, and a backing that opens the moment you want a different photo in it.
