Unstuffed Corduroy Pouf Cover, 18 in Cube, Sage Green

Description

This is a cover and nothing else: 18 by 18 by 18 inches of corduroy with a zip, no filling in the box. That is deliberate rather than a shortcut, because a stuffed pouf is mostly air in a carton, and what goes inside this one is already in the house. Old blankets, towels, out-of-season clothes, soft toys or polyester wadding all work.

How hard you pack it decides what you end up with. Pushed full, corners first, it is a footstool firm enough to sit on; filled loosely it is a floor cushion that children will drag from room to room. Fill in layers and do the corners before the middle, or the cube turns into a ball and the shape never comes back.

Sage green in a soft corduroy stripe is the calmer of our two pouf faces and the one that behaves like upholstery, sitting quietly with linen, wood and a plain rug instead of announcing itself. Two handles are securely attached for carrying it between rooms, and the zipper is visible rather than hidden, which is what makes refilling it bearable.
