Description

Disposable tableware is bought in separate packets and stays in them, which is how a buffet counter becomes four half-torn bags and a drawer of loose forks. Six compartments sort that out for good: plates from 7 to 12 inches in the large sections, cups of 8, 12 and 16 ounces standing upright, napkins flat, and the cutlery in its own slots where a hand can find it.

At 12.8 by 9.3 by 5.9 inches this is a countertop object rather than a cabinet one, and it is meant to live out in the open: on the kitchen counter for everyday use, carried to the table when people arrive, set at the end of a buffet so guests serve themselves without asking anybody where anything is. Keep it on a dry surface, because paper rope and standing water do not get along.

The weave is 100 percent renewable paper rope worked by hand, light enough to carry full in one hand and stiff enough to hold six compartments apart under load. The tone is a plain warm natural, so it suits a farmhouse kitchen and a modern one equally, and it stays out on the counter between parties instead of being put away and forgotten.
