Vintage Arched Hinged Double Frame, 5 x 7 in, Gold

Description

Some photographs are a pair and lose half their meaning apart: the two grandparents, the before and the after, the same place twenty years apart. Hanging them separately puts a gap between them that the pictures themselves do not have. A hinged double frame keeps them in one object, with the two arched openings reading as a single piece.

The hinge is also what lets it work without a wall. Opened slightly it stands on a desk, a mantel or a shelf on its own, angled so both pictures face the room, and it folds flat to be put away or carried, which is what frames like this were made for in the first place.

The openings are 5 by 7 with real glass over each, in ornate vintage gold with a brushed, hand-finished surface. There is an easel stand and there are built-in metal hanging hooks as well, so it can go on the wall beside a group of frames rather than on a surface, and the backing opens easily when the pictures change.
