What this one is for
At 8 by 10 an oval stops being an accent and becomes the thing the wall is arranged around. This is the frame for a single portrait above a console table, at the top of a staircase or over a mantel, where one large dark oval reads as an heirloom and everything else in the arrangement takes its cue from it.
Black with gold is the right finish at this scale because the size already provides the drama. A colored frame this large starts to dictate the color of the room; black lets the photograph do the talking, while the brushed gold on the raised edges keeps the outline from turning into a dark blank shape at a distance.
It takes a standard 8 by 10 print, cropped at the corners by the oval, so anything you want kept should be well inside the edge.
