A 4 by 6 frame with baroque openwork in gold, so whatever is behind it shows through the pierced border.
Description
Most ornate frames are solid, with the decoration cut into a closed band of material. This one is openwork: the baroque scrollwork has gaps in it, and whatever sits behind the frame becomes part of the pattern. Against a painted wall that reads as lace, and on a dark shelf it reads as filigree instead.
Which is why the background matters more here than with any other frame we make. In front of a plain wall or a flat-fronted cabinet the openwork stays crisp, while against patterned wallpaper or a row of book spines the gaps fill with visual noise and the scrollwork vanishes. Choose the surface first and hang it second.
The opening takes a standard 4 by 6 print with nothing cropped, so the ornament is the only thing happening. Durable polyresin with a hand-finished look, clear stain-resistant glass, an easel stand and built-in metal hooks for vertical or horizontal use, and a backing that opens without tools.
