Description
Scale changes what openwork is for. At 4 by 6 the pierced border is a detail you find on your way to the photograph; at 5 by 7 it becomes the object, and the picture inside turns into the quiet part. Hung in a hallway or a stairwell it works as cast metalwork that happens to hold a print.
That argues for a particular kind of photograph. Something simple and high in contrast holds its own at the middle of so much ornament, while a busy group shot competes with the border until both are hard to read. Black and white prints are unusually good in this one for the same reason.
A standard 5 by 7 print goes in uncropped. The body is durable polyresin with intricate hand-finished detail, fronted with clear stain-resistant glass, and both an easel stand and metal hanging hooks are built into the back for a tabletop or a wall, in either orientation.
