An eight-sided 5 by 7 frame in black and golden, ornately designed polyresin brushed with an elegant finish.
Description
An octagon is the compromise shape and it is underrated for exactly that reason. It takes a rectangular print without cropping anything, the way a rectangle does, and it breaks a run of straight edges, the way an oval does, so it is the one frame that can join a gallery wall and still be the piece someone asks about.
Black and golden is the finish that makes the geometry visible. Eight short edges need light on them to be counted from a distance, and a brushed finish over a dark ground does that: the metal rides the raised rim of each facet while the black holds the ornament in the recesses.
A standard 5 by 7 print goes in behind stain-resistant glass, which keeps sticky fingerprints off the photograph itself. The easel kickstand and the hanging hook are both on the back, so it stands on a desk, shelf or counter either way round, or hangs upright, and the backing opens without a fight.
