Vintage Oval Picture Frame, 4 x 4 in, Sage Green with Gold Trim

Description

Sage is the color in this range that behaves like a neutral. It is gray enough not to compete with anything and green enough to agree with foliage, which is why it lands on shelves that already hold plants, on wooden furniture and in rooms painted in the soft, chalky colors that have replaced plain white. Next to a real leaf it looks intentional rather than matched.

The gold trim is what keeps it from going flat. A green frame on its own can look like painted wood; a brushed gold along the raised edges catches light and puts the carved relief back into view from a distance, which is the difference between an ornament and a rectangle of color.

The oval opening crops a 4 by 4 photo to a rounded shape, so choose a picture with the subject centered. Polyresin body, clear stain-resistant glass, easel stand plus metal hooks, and a back that opens without a screwdriver.
