Description
The trouble with filling the gaps in an inherited gallery wall is that a new frame announces itself. Next to something that has spent forty years hanging in a hallway, a crisp finish looks wrong in a way that is hard to name. A distressed finish is the way around it: the brushing leaves the high points lighter than the recesses, so the frame arrives looking used.
Dark bronze is also the most useful tone to add to a mixed group. It is not black, so it does not punch a hole in the wall, and it is not gold, so it does not compete with the brass and gilt frames that are usually what gets handed down. It fills the space between them and makes the collection look chosen rather than accumulated.
At 8 by 10 the opening is rectangular and takes a standard print uncropped, which makes this a sensible anchor near the middle of an arrangement. Durable polyresin with a hand-finished look, clear stain-resistant glass over the print, an easel stand, built-in metal hooks for either orientation, and a backing that opens easily.
