Description

With no dark field under the brushwork, the whole molding reads as one piece of gilt, and that changes what the frame is for. Gilt separates an image from the wall and tells the eye that what is inside was chosen rather than kept, which flatters a printed map, a botanical plate or a page out of an old book more than it flatters a snapshot.

On a wall it behaves as the bright thing. Gold picks up brass hardware, a gilt mirror and warm lamplight, and against dark paint it is the first object anyone sees, so one or two in a cluster is usually the right number. Put more than that in a single arrangement and the photographs stop being the reason the wall exists.

The 8 by 10 rectangle takes a standard print with nothing cropped, which is what a framed print needs. Durable polyresin with a hand-finished look so the deep carving stays legible, clear stain-resistant glass over the paper, an easel stand for a wide shelf, metal hooks for either orientation, and an easy-open back.
