Vintage Arched Christmas Picture Frame, 5 x 7 in, Green with Holly

Description

The arch is doing the work here. A rounded top turns a framed photograph into an object with a shape, and because the bow and the holly are cast into the crown of that arch, the picture ends up sitting underneath an ornament rather than next to one. On a mantel that is the difference between a photo frame placed in the decorations and a photo frame that belongs to them.

Green is the colorway to take if there is already greenery in the room. Against garland, a wreath or a real tree the frame reads as part of the same arrangement, and the gold of the bow picks up whatever warm metal is nearby, which is usually candlesticks or baubles. The holly is small and specific enough to be festive without being a cartoon.

It is cast in durable polyresin with the detail worked in rather than applied, and the clear glass front keeps fingerprints, dust and everyday wear off the print behind it. Both a fold-out easel stand and metal hanging hooks are built into the back, so the same frame stands on a shelf or hangs on a wall, and the backing opens easily when you want a different picture in it.
