An 8 by 10 in retro gold, a softer and older gold over the ornate molding rather than a bright modern one.
Description
The gold here is the aged kind, and that decides where it belongs. Next to frames picked up in junk shops and at house clearances, a bright new gilt frame is immediately the newest thing on the wall; this one reads as roughly the same vintage as whatever is hanging beside it, which is what people are usually after when they mix old frames.
The lower contrast also changes the ornament. With a muted highlight on the raised detail, the carving reads as texture rather than as a flash of metal, so the frame can be heavily decorated and still sit quietly above a cabinet of old books, against warm white paint or alongside aged brass.
The opening is a plain 8 by 10 rectangle, so prints and group photographs go in whole. Cast polyresin with a hand-finished surface, clear stain-resistant glass to keep dust and fingerprints off the print, an easel stand and metal hanging hooks built in, and a backing that opens without tools.
